Gifting the Hubby

Yesterday was my husband’s 47th birthday and I think once again we knocked it out of the park when it came to the presents. He has several hobbies and interests but I always fear I will give him something that will end up collecting dust. Thank the heavens that did not happen with these gifts…

From our son came this Star Wars sunshade to keep his new RAV4 cool during the sweltering Georgia summers. We knew it was a winner when he immediately took photos of it and sent them to his friends. It is perfect for any fan of the series, only $20,  and is available at ThinkGeek.com

From me, the gift of something to sip. Last year I gave him a bottle of Basil Hayden Bourbon so in keeping with the cocktail theme I presented him this bottle of Thirteenth Colony Southern Bourbon. We like to drink local and this rye is made in Americus, Georgia.  It was promptly opened, poured, and loved. Prices vary. Check there website to find stores near you that carry their products.

So This is 44.

Today is my 44th birthday.

Should I feel mid-life crisis-y? I don’t. Just a bit of sinus pressure.

Should I feel more mature? I laughed at my kid when he fell out of bed this morning, continue to find farts funny and I have dropped numerous f-bombs today. I will say no to this one.

Should I look old? Well I am beginning to get the freckles/moles on my face that happen to every woman in my family. Unlike this time last year, I don’t have a face full of zits so I am very thankful for that.  My butt looks great in these skinny jeans.

Should I feel wise and more comfortable with my place in this world? Does not giving a shit count? I can say that I have realized that with all I know, I really don’t know anything. So I try to shut up and listen as often as possible.

Should I be reflecting on how much I have accomplished so far and all that I have to do before my time expires? I don’t have time to reflect because I am too busy trying to remember if I ate breakfast or not. My Outlook calendar will tell me how much time I have left for the things I have to get done today.

Maybe these major personality changes will happen this time next year or maybe never. Hopefully never. Right now I will say that 44 feels a lot like 43. Without the acne.

38 and Counting

Yesterday was my 38th birthday and it was such a great and productive day. Not only did I have flowers and a handwritten note greet me when I woke up (thanks Joe). I had tons of handmade cards from the clients at my job, a big piece of cake from my boss, fun drum time on Guitar Hero World Tour, and an awesome dinner at Tap. Do I feel older? Heck no! Didn’t you just read I spent time playing my new favorite toy? Do I feel smarter? Yes a wee bit. I think in my 20’s I made mistakes not knowing that they were wrong decisions. Now in my 30’s I am fully aware of the stupidity of my actions. My ignorance is deliberate.

I did a search to find some other cool people born in 1971 and the list rocked! Here they are with some cool things they have said:

Minnie Driver-actress

Winona Ryder-actress and part-time criminal

Lance Armstrong- athlete and Cancer suvivor

Ewan McGregor- star of Trainspotting and Star Wars, “I’m just looking for that moment to drop my Jedi knickers and pull out my real light saber”

Christina Applegate-actress, “How do you survive Christmas? You drink a lot and drink a lot.”

Shannen Doherty-“actress” I use that term loosely, “It’s better to be the rejecter than the rejectee”

and last but not least

Matt Stone, creator of South Park, and voice of three of the shows characters(including Butters pictured above). Allow me to show proof of my generation’s brilliance by quoting Mr. Stone…”You can make fun of everything.”
