Maps! Wonderful Maps!

I love maps. Actually I just woke up from a dream in which I was in an awesome home that had been decorated with an amazing collection of school maps of different countries. I own one of those very same maps and having this dream reinforced the fact that we must hang it pronto!!!!! It is of Europe around 1965. Not that is a specialized one and that was the year it was showcasing; the old ass thing was actually made in 1965. So of course most of the map is taken up by a big chunk that was the Soviet Block. All of the little -mania’s that exsist today were a part of the big old USSR during that time so it really is a history lesson. On top of that it is full of warm shades of yellow and orange that I love which makes it great for decorating.

We are looking for a cool metal with shelves bar cart to replace the shelf-o-drinks that we currently have. I have my eyes on Craigslist as those things are $179 retail and I have seen them for as low as $50 on the list. Joe is here through Thursday this week so I think we can get some map hanging furniture re-arranging done during that time!

9021- I wear a Zero!

The real 90210. Peep those reverse fit jeans on Andrea!

Fake 90210. I don’t think the girls EVER eat!

So I am seeing these commercials for the new 90210 and it is a complete sham! First of all..don’t even try to do it better cause it will not happen. That level of coolness/wackness cannot be recreated it belongs to my generation and mine alone. The next thing you know they will try to bring back 21 Jump Street or do a remake of Heathers (oh the humanity!!). Actually if they try either one of those I will fly to LA immediately and kick someone in the hiney!!

But I digress, the reason for my rant is the obvious difference in SIZE of the folks from the 80’s to this fine year of 2009. Are all teenagers binging and purging so much that they are this skinny! Look at the first photo above. We all knew that Dylan and Andrea were way to old for school so I am not even going to talk about how YOUNG these new kids look cause my point of reference is way skewed. But, you have to agree with me that my 80’s pack was the proper size. That was what my friends looked like, except grandpa Dylan and grandma Andrea. They had actual hips and thighs and our arms were larger than pencils. All of the boys look like little brit-pop monkeys(no offense to the black kid)! No wonder girls in this country have body image issues, we cram this garbage in their faces.

When Joe and I have kids they will be on a strict diet of the ORIGINAL Sesame Street, Welcome Back Kotter, Mutual of Omaha’s Wild Kingdon, and the real 90210 when they reach the right age!!! They will be called anti-social, sarcastic realists and I will love them to bits.

Hats off to my friend of the day NikkiCheese!

Today I am feeling a bit happy for what I have, as some people don’t have squat. One of the things I am really happy for is my friends. They rock and continue to do so on a daily basis. A while ago I was in a grocery store and saw these horribly dark and synical greeting cards. There was a cartoon-goth girl on the front of one and the card read, “Have a nice day. If you believe such a thing is possible.)I actually feel bad calling them greeting cards..but anyway. They reminded me of my friends and especially my friend Nicole Ricotta(hense the moniker Nikki Cheese). She is part Italian part Puerto Rican, from New York (meaning LOUD.) And is generally down with whatever wackness is going on. When you first meet her she will probably come off as really quiet but don’t let that mislead you. Her weapon of choice in case things come to blows is a chainsaw(I kid you not!) I met her o-so many years ago, 1993/94/90-something, when we both worked at Arthur Anderson. We have both witnessed a bunch of garbage but have stuck together through it all. The photo above is of us at a beer tasting, we definitely have beer in common.
May I say that in my Sex and the City world where Alicia is Charlotte, and Sybil is Samantha, Nicole is definitely Miranda. She holds nothing back and will always stick up for you.
Thank you God for all of my friends and today I especially thank you for Nicole.

Beautiful Savannah

I have been working like a mad woman and have been away from my blog. Last week I went to Savannah for the day for business. I have become a pro at scoping out a place and doing a quick run of stuff even though I may be there for just a short time.
First me and my boss had an amazing lunch at Zunzi’s Express http://www.zunzis.com/.
I had the Fisherman’s Deck sandwich which is charbroiled salmon on french bread with lettuce and tomatoes. It was amazing. The place is an itty-bitty hole in the wall on East York Street with no inside tables. We defintely need something like this in Atlanta.

After my work meeting I had roughly one hour to do a bit of shopping/sight seeing. I had seen a really cute shop on the way back from my meeting so I walked back to it first. The Paris Market& Brocante is beautiful.

Everything is girly girl and they have the cutest room vignettes. They have out-Anthropologied Anthropologie and done away with the clothing. You have to see it to believe it. I left with a bar od triple milled Doux soap that smells divine.

Ooops, I almost forgot to tell you how cute my hotel room was. Here are some pics of my room at The Marshall House…

There was a photo in my room of the Inn in 1865. It is very cute and very affordable. They serve a free continential breakfast in the morning and have daily wine and cheese tastings at 5:30.

For dinner of course we went to Paula Deen’s Lady and Son’s. The place is a packed madhouse but fortunately our wait wasnt too long. We all had the buffet which had the most tender beef stew I have ever tried. For dessert you have your choise of bannana pudding, fruit cobbler or chocolate cake. I had the pudding which had the most perfect maraigne. When you visit the city put your name on the list at the beginning of the morning for dinner. They do not take reservations for parties less than 10 people.
