Complete Beer Course by Joshua M. Bernstein

Complete Beer Course by Joshua M. Bernstein

As usual the husband has his face in a book that food/drink themed. This is a great one for us beer geeks seeking our future conquests. It is also a good choice for people who may be afraid of the amount of beer choices out there and want a friendly guide.

Lego Club Magazine

This magazine is good for kids who love legos, want to know why the newest sets are and who love new ideas on what to build. This magazine is bad for parents who are tired of stepping on those damn things. Bring into your home at your own risk!!

Fast Company Magazine

Fast Company Magazine

This magazine serves as news, homework, and dream fuel. I learn what some of the greatest minds in the world are doing to improve the status quo. Every month I look forward to seeing what the power players think are the best new apps and websites. No matter what your field of business; if you are a technology/innovation nerd you will love this magazine.

What We Are Reading – October 3rd

Nicely Said by Nicole Fenton and Kate Kiefer Lee

Nicely Said by Nicole Fenton and Kate Kiefer Lee

I have been wanting to read this book for a while but never made the time to do it. Other things (sleep and Pinterest), books, and magazines keeping jumping ahead of it in my “Books to Read” line. Now that I finally cracked it open I love it. It is valuable for both my professional writing as well as my personal blog content development and editing. If you write for any reason you need to put the pen down, back away from the keyboard, and soak up this knowledge.

What If? by Randall Munroe

While I have my face in a book about writing, my husband has his face in a book about everything else. In this book each chapter is devoted to answering one weird question. How many Lego would it take to build a bridge from here to Europe? If there was a robot apocalypse how long would we survive? These are two of the chapters people. See what I mean by weird? If you follow xkcd.com you will love this book by the same author. Random and ridiculous, educational and entertaining; if you have a sense of humor you are going to love this one.

What We Are Reading – September 21st

The Pinkelton’s went to the beach last week and took some fine reading materials with us. They were mostly graphic novels/comic books; with the exception of mommy’s ten pound Vogue fall issue. More about my hits and misses from that tome on the next post. Our picks fell into just about any category you could hope for: funny, educational, rebellious and down right brilliant. They were:

March Book One

March: Book One

I had the chance to read this first book in a trilogy by and about the life and times of civil rights leader Congressman John Lewis. The collection of stories from his youth raising chickens to his participation in many lunch counter sit-ins spans a distant time; but covers struggles that continue to exist today. Tiny Titans Adventures in Awesomeness

Tiny Titans Adventures in Awesomeness

The kid is a fan of any superhero so this book is a big hit. Art Balthazar creates short and funny adventures for these young offspring of some of our most well-loved comic book characters. All of the books in this series include mazes, puzzles, and object finding activities in between the humorous stories. Click here to get one for your own little hero.

Transmetroplitan

Transmetroplitan

The husband had his face in this book for most of our trip. This tale is one of paranoia, journalism, politics and many other themes that are relevant in present times. The protagonist Spider Jerusalem is no hero and this quality make him pretty relatable given his journey and the dire circumstances of the world he lives in. Get your own copy as well as others in the series here.

What are you guys reading as we head into fall?

What We Are Reading This Week – September 9th

Attending Dragon Con means that I end my Labor Day weekend with more books and TV shows to add to my must-see list. This year was no different and I am leaping towards a few books with great expectations. They are:

6690798

The Passage by Justin Cronin

Aisha Tyler was the first person I heard raving about this book. I have become a fan of post-apocolyptic weirdness and this is right up my alley.

unbecoming-of-mara-dyer2

The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer

This trilogy (the third in the series is currently being written) is on many people’s lists of books to read. Most recently it was recommend to me by my babysitter whose style (purple, red, and green hair) and taste (huge Walking Dead fan) I hold in high regard.

And…Anything by New York Times bestseller Sherrilyn Kenyon. I had never heard this woman’s name before Dragon Con; but there was lots of Kenyon worship there. Each year she walks in the infamous Con parade with many of her fans who dress as characters from her books. Who wouldn’t love an author like that?

Ms. Marvel #8

Before I can read any of those goodies I have to get the next Ms. Marvel. She’s going to have a dog sidekick!!!

Read any good books lately?
