Think about your own good stuff. This is mine.

Oy, I haven’t blogged in so long it seems. The month of October has been a busy maze of work, family, and social obligations that as I sit and write this I realize I need to be thankful for. Or maybe it is simply my harmonal PMS state. Either way allow me to do a quick recap and I promise more details and photos soon:

-I am thankful for InStyle magazine which showcased a pair of Yves Saint Laurent sling backs that look just like the LifeStrides my mom bought me from Macys.

-I am thankful for gathering with friends at Manuel’s Tavern for the final debate. It gave me the chance to meet a new one and to watch once the again the “Hope” that inspires me everyday.

-I am thankful that I got to go with Joe to his 20th high school reunion. It is great to see the friends he came from. I believe people are too quick to judge you by your parents..it is old friends who helped raise you and in turn you helped raise that really say a lot about you.

-I am thankful for Edward McKay bookstore in Greensboro, NC. It has to be one of the greatest used bookstores in this fine country. I found Looking Backward and Middlesex for a few bucks.

– I am thankful my mother has finally come out of the dark ages and is embracing her new laptop computer.

-I am thankful for the guy who kept belching and belching in the Greensboro Airport. Not only did it give us a great laugh but I now know there is someone more rude than myself.

– I am thankful for people who know what is best, and good, and just and don’t let the assholes of the planet get them down. Keep fighting the good fight! We WILL run the bastards out of town!

Foodie, foodie, food. Best new Restaurant. Bookhouse Pub

OK every place else sucks now. I was going to do a write up on Cafe Sunflower where I had vegan meatloaf with Jodi K (http://www.jodikendall.com/), but my eating experience the following night put it to shame.

You must go to Bookhouse Pub. They haven’t been open for a month yet but I think they should be heralded as a new MUST in Atlanta. Nestled in the small strip of shops behind MJQ (yeah!) and Chipotle(Ewww) is this new pub. Let me begin by saying they have funnel cake and collard green eggrolls on the menu. Funnel cake during non-arts festival season!!! There is a GOD!! If you kick ass, like I know you do, that should be all you need to hear. I mean come on folks, carnie food rules! You want more? OK I also had yummy corn-on-the-cob smotherd in cilantro and parmesean cheese. And I ate some fries off of my friends place and they were the best fat cut fries ever.

Their beer list is extensive to say the least and is full of Belgin and high gravity brews that us beer snobs enjoy.

The decor is beautiful with meticulous woodwork throughout and a stunning deck/patio out back. Amazing stained glass windows line one wall while the all wood and glass bar sits across from it. Gargoyle detailing add a gothic touch while pendant lamps made of salt hang over booths and set a cozy vibe in this eatery. None of that new crappy minimalist decor here. A lot of love went into the design of this place and it shows.

In a funny twist I mentioned that I had been to Cafe Sunflower the night before. One of my table mates responded, “I have never heard a review from anyone about that place that would make me want to go there.” Hopefully this review of Bookhouse will have the exact opposite effect .

Hours are: Kitchen 6pm to 12am- Bar 6pm to Last Call -Sunday Brunch 11am to 4pm. Visit their myspace page by clicking this link. http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=318009542

Blessed B!!!(B is for boots!)

I am soo excited because tonight the temperature is dropping to 47 degrees here in Atlanta. I relish the crisp air of fall. For me it smells more “Fall” than a dozen freshly sharpened pencils! 47 degrees is only 15 degrees warmer that the temperature that water freezes at and if that dosen’t signal the official start of boot and tight season I don’t know what does.
Now some of you may say…”It’s not cold enough for boots!”…
but as a cold weather loving freak I cannot wait for the first frost of the season to break them out! Fall is here so bring it on!
My collection of fabulous footwear has grown over the years but has often been limited by my shoe size(10.5-11). I would be Imelda Freakin’ Marcos if I wore a normal size let me tell you. I look for comfort, classic-style and versatility. The buckle boot pictured was one of my favorite pairs ever. Once I tired of the buckle adornment I removed it with a box cutter! Voila..a whole new pair of boots.
Last year while stolling the aisles of TJMaxx I stumbled upon a pair of cornflower blue boots in the same buckle style. They were meant to be as 1) They actually fit even though they were a size 10 and 2) they were only $35.00.
This season has brought some awesome new styles that are long on length and flat in heel. Not all of us are made for stilletos.

The Apebazza “Zebu” boot at Nordstrom $294.95

The Matisse Subway boot $209.95
So the next time you see me notice the footwear and peep the tights(another addiction).
Check back for beautiful sonnets and tales of wool, turtle necks and tweed(sigh)…
