Dirty nails, mud balls in hand and leaves in hair – I love this kid.
When In Nome…
Well we aren’t really in Nome(Alaska) ; but dang if it doesn’t feel like it. This snowy/sleety weather has been a beast; however this morning I decided to make the best of it – and make something of it. After making many forts, Lego towers, and messes I finally got the boy to help me create a snack to eat.
With four simple ingredients – snow, milk, sugar, and vanilla extract; we made snow ice cream. I used a single serve ice cream dish to mix it all. Add ingredients to the taste and consistency that you like best.
If the white stuff hasn’t already melted in your area grab a bowlful (make sure it is clean), and make this tasty treat everyone will love.
Freak-Snow 2014 is Coming! Do You Have Sanitary Pads?!
In the last 48 hours my mother has called me four times. Two of these calls I actually answered. She was concerned about me and the hubs, and the boy, and the inclement weather. She was concerned about supplies we had at the house, if I was going to have to possibly drive on ice, and if my car was full of gas. “We are all good over here,” I responded.
The other two calls came last night when I was unable to answer the phone so they went to voicemail. I listened to the most recent phone message first. It was:
I am just calling to see if you got my first message about the sanitary pads. You want to make sure you have enough of those if you are going to be stuck in the house. And you need some in the car too! Call me when you get this!
My mouth hit the floor.”My mom called me to remind me to buy maxi-pads for the ice storm”, I yelled to Joe. He began laughing. “You are almost 43 years old. I think you know when to by those things”, he said.
I shook my head and deleted the message. But my sick sense of all things weird got the best of me and I was compelled to listen to the first message.
Hey, it’s me. I just wanted to make sure you had enough sanitary napkins at the house. If you are on your period you don’t want to be without those, or tampons, or whatever you need. You should run to the store and stock up. Make sure you have some in your emergency kit in the car too. Don’t forget! Call me when you get this!
So ladies of Georgia, are you really ready for the weather??
Stokke Adventure – Kid/Life Balance on A Sunday
I have always been happy with how Joe and I balance having a kid and the rest of our life. Many people say, “You just do it.” But how do you just do it? Early on we realized we needed to keep old hobbies and add some new ones. Do most of our old activities (I do miss trivia every Thursday though); and get new ones (the hanging at the Island of Misfit Toys is actually kind of fun). Today was an example of that balance, that fine art of give and take. Here was our day. . . .

Running into Target to buy a birthday gift. The Stokke is great for a quick run to the store while keeping Aaron from investigating everything on the shelves.

Dad holding up the kid so he could reach a game. A lot of lights, a lot of buzzes. Someone mentioned that it sounded like Vegas in there.

The party won this round. Mama picked up a latte while the kid dozed. Oh how sweet he looks when he sleeps.

After the nap and our ride home the boy was wide awake and ready to watch dad brew. Watching the beer grow is exciting!
When you give your child Chuck E. Cheese, it is nice to give yourself a treat too. Brewing is actually a new hobby that was started after the kid was born. When you move from a one bedroom condo into a four story town home you have the room to brew! That is give and take!
I can’t wait for that chocolate stout to be ready and for my hearing to come back. I must be getting old!
