Don’t Hate tha Playa…..

Phase 10 is the greatest card game of all time. I am sure of most of you have never heard of it. However, if you have, please send me a note so that we can organize a game night.
I just found out that there is a Master’s edition of the game that has some twists and turns on the standard rules. I simply do not understand how UNO has done so well and this game is still so low profile.

Here is the Wiki blurb on this beast…

Phase 10 is a card game created in 1982 by Kenneth Johnson and currently produced by Fundex Games. Phase 10 is based on a variant of rummy known as Liverpool Rummy. It requires a special deck or simply 2 regular decks of cards, and can be played by two to six people. The game is named after the ten Phases (or melds) that a player must advance through in order to win. Phase 10 is Fundex‘s best selling product, selling 32,658,845 units to date, making it the 2nd best selling card game, behind Uno.

What they don’t tell you is that a game lasts several hours. I played Friday night and we started at 12 midnight and finished at 4AM. Don’t moan…it’s like many hours at an amusement park.

I am making it last like Harry Potter

For those of you who fell in love with J. K. Rowling’s books about a magical boy, you will understand the title of this book review. This 2005 novel by Nick Hornby has me savoring every last page and wanting more, more, more of the story even though I am getting closer, closer, closer to the end. The story is of four would-be suiciders who accidently meet at a popular spot to off yourself one New Year’s Eve. Oddly enough hilarity, tears, self realization and angst ensue. JJ, Martin, Maureen and Jess find that their differences mean nothing when you have suicide in common. Each chapter is told from a different character’s point of view giving you insight into the worlds that brought them each to the rooftop. And through this technique you see what their real wants and motives are.
Hornby’s combination of dry wit and compassion make for beautiful story telling as proven in About a Boy and High Fidelity. Buy it. And savor every bite.

One Fine Weekend

The beer tasting/concert at Atlanta Brewing Company was nothing but fun. This Friday was a hot one so there were more than a few willing participants on had to hear some tunes and enjoy a selection of their fine ales. Click here to visit their website and make plans for the next event.

We built up massive appetites doing those pint curls and decided to head on over to Westside Pizza. The menu has something to offer everyone from salads, to calzones, subs and of course pizza. We enjoyed an appetizer of cheese bread with marinara dipping sauce. My chicken parm sandwich was amazing and Joe orderd the Greek Calzone which I of course nibbled on.
To the right you will see Nic and Wadner drooling over the menu.

Located in the up and coming Westside/Riverside neighborhood it attracts a lot of locals with the great food and trivia. Located at 2341 Marietta Blvd it is convenient for eats after your weekend trip to the Chattahoochee outlet stores!

Welcome to our world….

Will you all join me in welcoming Katarina Alyce Mills to our world. She was born Friday, June 6 weighing 7lbs 9oz. Her proud parents Christie and Michael Mills are so excited for to have their first bundle of joy.

Christie and I got each other through much drama and heat at our old job. And I mean heat literally. The above photo was taken in 90 degree Atlanta summer heat at a 3-day track meet. The heat was so oppressive all we could do was laugh.

I hope Christie and Mike know they have so much laughing ahead of them with their new baby girl!!!
